Essential Functions and Objectives:
Monitors, operates, installs and maintains telecommunication systems and equipment.  Troubleshoots any type of hardware or software problems to ensure that systems perform in a matter with best meets DPS’s needs and objectives.  Responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of telecommunication equipment.  Demonstrates DPS’s Core Values:  Students First, Accountability, Integrity, Collaboration, Equity, and Fun.
- Under general supervision install, maintain and repair equipment in existing telecommunications systems.
- Assist in the installation of telecom systems and equipment for new facilities.
- Perform telecom network software installations and maintain network database for efficient system operations and billing support.
- Communicate with upper level managers regarding the status of assigned projects and resource use.
- Establish and maintain all standard project documentation.
- Prepare planning documents and directories according to DoTS standards.
- Follow documented procedures and checklists.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:
- Typically has one (1) to two (2) years of IT work experience with basic understanding of telecommunications and multi-platform environments.         
- Experience handling confidential information with a high degree of integrity.
- Skillful attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven experience and skills to quickly learn new systems and applications.
- Experience troubleshooting, isolating and diagnosing problems.
- Experience working successfully with technical personnel.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License, appropriate insurance coverage and acceptable driving record for the past three years.
- Knowledge of data scopes, patch panels, modems and various analog and digital signaling systems.
- Thorough knowledge of T-1 network architecture and operating procedures.
- Knowledge of control techniques and communications access methodology.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and terminate cables and grounding systems.
- Knowledge of Microsoft applications.
- Ability to converse in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to discuss issues at a technical or non-technical level, depending on the audience.
- Ability to work effectively with staff at all levels, in all departments.
- Ability to contribute to a positive and cohesive DoTS team.
- Ability to read and interpret relevant manuals and information and to understand and troubleshoot a variety of problems.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and occasionally deviate from established practices and procedures for new situations and problems.
- Ability to make decisions and complete assignments.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and organize project work, at times with interruptions.
Education Requirements:
- Associate’s degree or technical institute degree/certificate in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
