About this job:

Leads implementation of the District's climate action plan as it pertains to the built environment, transportation and resource management, with a focus on reducing the District's carbon footprint and maintaining our greenhouse gas inventory. Manages budgetary and operational aspects of the team that pertains to the built environment, transportation and resource management and develops and implements year-over-year strategies for the climate action plan with cross-division stakeholders. Supports the development of future climate action plan strategies and financial impact assessments within operations. Develops strong relationships with other team leaders, working closely with other teams to create and embed a culture of sustainability across the organization.

What You'll Do:

    Manages and directs operational sustainability department staff; responsible for talent acquisition, setting and leading performance expectations, supporting annual goal setting, providing meaningful feedback, and supporting professional development and growth

    Manages and coordinates building automation scheduling and optimization programs of all district sites in collaboration with the HVAC, Facility Operations and Operational Service teams; oversees the inspections, assessments, and modeling for operational efficiencies, occupancy comfort, and internal or external policy compliance

    Assists in efforts to increase use of renewable energy, energy conservation measures and energy acquisition strategies, including recommendations to team leadership on the purchase of fuel on the open market (i.e. transport gas)

    Works closely with the Planning, Design and Construction and Facility Management departments on projects like LED retrofits, renewable energy, heat pumps, waste to energy technologies, zero tailpipe fleet infrastructure, etc.

    Leads the electrification goals and other sustainability initiatives in the capital planning process for the team

    Coordinates and assists with commissioning and retro-commissioning of mechanical and electrical systems for existing buildings and identifies smart building technologies for renovations and new builds

    In collaboration with team members, develops business proposals for potential projects that would further the mission of sustainability in the District and achieves the goals in the climate action plan

    Oversees the budget, timeline, key performance indicators and outcomes of sustainability projects; maintains contracts, holds contractors accountable for deliverables and ensures proper documentation of projects (i.e. MOUs, purchase orders, change orders, architectural renderings, etc.)

    Identifies obstacles and takes a proactive approach to solutions in reaching the District’s climate action goals; ensures disproportionately affected communities are meaningfully engaged in the organization’s climate action work

What You’ll Need:

  •  High School Diploma or GED

  • Bachelor's or relevant work experience

  • Five (5) years of experience overseeing sustainability programs within facility management, including experience with preventive building automation systems and resource monitoring

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience leading a team

  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations

  • Strong organizational and analytic skills and strong attention to detail

  • Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills

  • Ability to develop and interpret data and manage resources

  • Ability to motivate and influence others

  • Ability to effectively lead a team

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Ability to multi-task and juggle management of several high-priority projects in parallel

  • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team
