1ST ANNUAL THIERRY "PRINCE T" SMITH GOLF TOURNAMENT

Thierry Smith was Denver’s first African American sports journalist. Thierry loved writing about upcoming high school athletes. Over his career, he worked in radio, KDKO, KYBG, and KKFN Sports Rap, and as Sports Director, he produced, wrote, and broadcasted six daily sports reports. He also co-hosted “Bronco Rap” with ex Denver Broncos Louis Wright and Rick Upchurch.  To his closest friends, they knew him by his nickname, "Prince T."

He broke barriers and received the most prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Association of Black Journalists in 2000 and was inducted into the East High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.

Smith never talked about his disease on air, but he lived with MS for many years. At times his condition caused him to broadcast from his bedroom and hospital bed. That didn't stop him; he didn't look at his condition as a negative or disadvantage. He learned to cope with his condition even though he used a wheelchair since 1991. Sadly Multiple Sclerosis took its toll on his body, and he passed away on August 24th, 2009, at the age of 56.
